The Colombian Coffee Federation has divided the coffee growing regions of Colombia into 86 distinct Designated Coffee Regions (DCRs).

DCRs are Agro-Ecological/Agro-Climatic regions delimited geographically according to the predominantly weather, soil, and topography.

Coffee grown in a DCR, or within an even smaller geographical appellation area, are most likely to have similar organic and biologic response and to yield profile characteristics comparable when produced under similar methods.

All the specialty coffees offered by Fairfield Trading LLC are linked with an unique region / appellations and group of producers that have been fully identified and characterized by the Colombian Coffee Federation to include:

          Geo-referenced digital information

Physiographyfully defined coffee areas structure outline by region and appellation

          Altitude; Relief; Slope

          Coffee cultural characteristics:

Coffee variety; Age of tree stock; Density; Shade (full/semi/sun)

           Climate records (isolines) maps

          Rainfall; Temperature; Sunshine (intensity)

          Soil classification

          Structure; Type

          Socio Economic Variables

          Individual coffee grower; Community

DESIGNATED COFFEE REGIONS

Commercially oriented markets view Colombia as the origin,, frequently associating geographical (Department state) indicator to single out provenance.

DCRs boundaries are not limited nor defined by geopolitical and administrative divisions.

DCRs are defined only by coffee variables.

The latter approach, with its versatile 86 DCRs and 500+ purchasing points is preferred by Fairfield Trading LLC to define its FNC specialty coffee regions and appellations.
