2011 COLOMBIA PRODUCTION ESTIMATE 8.5 TO 9 MILLION BAGS
Posted on | August 23, 2011 | No Comments
Colombian coffee production continued declining during the first half of 2011. Rain and Rust are the named culprits. From JAN to JUL 2011 Colombia produced 4.6 million (60 KG Bags) vs. 4.83 Million in the same period during in 2010 and 4.82 in 2009 .
Given the important flowering that took place during the Q1/2011, we anticipated a large recovery in production in the second half of 2011. However, unrelenting rains and a persistent and aggressive rust disease, deteriorated our optimist production prospects for the second semester 2011.
If, production during each of the 5 months August to December 2011 total 4.84 million bags (or 90% of the 2001 to 2010 average for the same period), then total production will be just under 9 million bags in year 2011. Coffee Production 2011 Outlook
Posted on | May 5, 2011 | 19 Comments
Due to torrential rains in most of the coffee regions during March and April 2011, our initial outlook for coffee production in Colombia for 2011 is revised downward.
Our new estimate assumes that production during the most important second semester will be lower than the production average in the previous 12 years.
Our current total production estimate for Colombia in 2011 is 9.7 million bags.
